James Cope died from wounds on 17th September, 1914 after having been brought back to the United Kingdom but as yet, there is no information, as to when and where he was wounded. The 1st Middlesex battalion were part of 19 Brigade that had fought in the two opening battles of the war at Mons and Le Cateau as well as the battles of the Aisne and the Marne in September, 1914.
